I'm totally against a man hitting a woman, but Ariel was going nuts on Chuck and his car. She was even using a weapon. Did he have a right to hit her under the "stand your ground" law to protect himself?
shareDon't be ridiculous. Stand your ground laws are used to defend yourself when you feel your LIFE is threatened. She was using the weapon on his PROPERTY not on his PERSON and he was much stronger than her. He took the weapon away from her and threw it aside then hit her.
shareI agree. I just saw the scene and if Ariel was still possession of the weapon and ready to use it, it would definitely be self defence (at least in Finland). But when he already had a good hold on her and the weapon is tossed to the ground it is not self defence any more. It's just blain assault (at least in Finland).

In the original you had sympathy in this scene for Ariel, as she only damaged his truck after he hit her and she really was the victim, in this version she kept going after him even after he was going to leave, the way it is done just takes some sympathy away from the Ariel character

Well The 'Stand Your Ground' Law is about something else.
But in that situation I had no empathy toward Ariel.
First she hits him with a fist, and does he hit back, no he pushes her to the ground and leaves. It is first when she attacks his car with a dangerous weapon, he hits her once, and now my memory is shaky wasn't a slap and not a fist he used.
And when the reverend want's to call the cops abouts the black eye, I thought "yeah go ahead, he would never be found guilty, and Ariel might end up in a cell.
While most boys are taught not to hit girls, you should be allowed to protect yourself and your property from any gender, it's called equality ;-)
when i saw the scene i came here to see if people talked about that. not only does she hit him first. and its the fist punch to the face. he just pushes her and then walks away. but then she goes on to destroy his truck with a weapon. there was nothing wrong with him hitting her. she was being a total lunatic. she deserved it.
