The Iront of It's vs. Its

I am often amazed at how many people do not know the difference between it's and its. Those associated with the editing of this movie are among those who do not know the difference, because about an hour into the documentary the text on the screen is incorrect. I don't know why, but this bugs the crap out of me.

It's is the combination of it and is. This is not the possessive form; it is a contraction for "it is." Its is possessive. You do not use it's to show possession, and this is because you do not use any apostrophes in any possessive pronouns -- ours, yours, theirs, and its.

That this is a movie about possession is the icing on the cake regarding this grammar mistake... about possession.
