There's one scene/line at about 1 hr 30 that just about makes me bawl. It's Patrik's last day, and he comes out to see Goran in the garden, ostensibly to help with the chores, but really because he wants to spend his last few minutes with him and get his approval of his outfit with the nice shirt that Sven gave him. But then he cuts his hand (accidentally or on purpose, we don't know) - Goran asks him if he wants a plaster and Patrik replies gruffly (defensively) "Plaster! I'm not a baby" - and that one simple line to me encompasses all the complexities of the film, and of the love story between Patrik and Goran. Of course he wants a plaster - he's desperately longing for a father to love him and look after him and put on plasters to heal all those wounds he received in life - and Goran can do that, not just because he's a doctor who heals people as his job, but because he's a kind, brave and amazing man with whom Patrik has fallen in love. But Patrik's thinking that Goran never really wanted to adopt a damaged goods 15 year old boy - he wanted to adopt a 1.5 year old baby - if he goes now then maybe Goran will have another chance to get a baby he can really love. He remembers all those horrible things he said about not wanting to live with a gay couple and he doesn't know how to ask if he can stay because, despite his exterior toughness, he's just a young boy.
