Remake

You know Hollywood will probably do a remake. It's too cute a premise not to.

I just saw the movie last night and although it was really enjoyable, I don't see Hollywood producing a remake of this any time soon. If it is ever made, it'd be an independent production and the producers will most likely have had to scrape together the money to get it made. I would love to see an American version--not to take anything away from the original--with some A-list actors attached the project. I'm not holding my breath though.

It might also make a fantastic comedy/drama series on HBO or Showtime.

Sister, when I've raised hell, you'll know it!

Yeah, they'll remake it but it will be a hetero couple. Starring Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn.

reply

Oh yeah, and the boy will be 18.

Come on, why do Hollywood always has to make a remakes of relatively new movies??? (and thus destroy the original version) Is it really that hard to watch a movie with subtitles???

reply

They'll kill it. Put in some washed up actors and make jokes that will probably be insulting.

We shouldn't have to wait for these movies to come out on video before we see them, usually three years after they were made. I have always loved foreign films, being introduced to them at a young age through PBS and a few channels picked up through Canada. They should add a few foreign films to the cineplexes but probably won't for fear of not making enough money.

Sort of...I just discovered a 2009 U.S. film (also based on a play, so it says) titled Surprise! Surprise!, which is about a gay couple, one of whom discovers he has a 16 year old homophobe son he never knew he had.

Sounds incredibly similar, don't you think? I'd suspect the American film is an unauthorized remake of this idea.

People act like remakes are such a horrible thing and "destroy" the original film... but how? If anything, they bring more attention to the original film. I enjoyed the film and wouldn't mind to see what Hollywood brings to it. Yeah, a crappy comedic version would suck, but a shot-for-shot remake would as well. I'm all for a good quality American version of it.

You know what brings more attention to the original film?

Putting it in theatres.

And there it is. It's confirmed that Hollywood is remaking this movie with the exception that the name is now Patrick instead of Patrik, haha

Well there goes another one of my favorite foreign films to be sent to the slaughterhouse by American Cinema.

I'm gonna go kill myself by running the car in the garage. So long cruel world.

Here's an idea: Just don't see the remake. You can watch the original version that you know and love over and over and in no way will it ever be affected by the remake.
