shareI'd bet real money that the announced release date will be postponed.
The thing is, the COVID pandemic and the closure of so many movie theaters has really affected the financial model that made these massive blockbusters worth investments of hundreds of millions of dollars. If the damn virus keeps sweeping its way around the world and back the way I think it will, there are going to be ongoing theater closures (temporary or permanent), places where crowds are forbidden to gather, and people who will avoid crowded theaters of their own free will.
Then there's idiots like me who will fearlessly swarm the theater as soon as they open. I just won't be going to any more super hero movies. Especially not this one. I didn't think the first one was very good.
I think you are right about the big budget blockbusters though. Won't see that level of investment for awhile (but possibly sooner than you think).
Marvel Films is still rolling out a couple of big-budget sequels, "Thor: Love and Thunder" and "Doctor Strange 2", among others. I don't know if there have been budget cuts behind the scenes or what, but apparently Marvel is willing to give the Tentpole business model a couple more whirls. I really hope they release them on streaming, whether the theaters are open or not, because I'll pay to see them on my big home TV! Because I'm not going to a theater while the pandemic is still on (special circumstances).
But really, I think Marvel films has done what they set out to do with feature films, and will be quietly beefing up their TV/streaming content, and winding down the movies.
Yeah, TV/streaming content does seem to be where the action is. Budgets or not, I want good stories made well. The blockbuster status hasn't guaranteed quality consistently yet so I guess a shift in scale won't mean anything different on that score. For all the complaining I do about modern TV shows, there are some that I really like (like Dark and Condor). I'll be happy for more content.

shareCM is an A list superhero. The first movie made over a billion so this movie should have been about the same. Unfortunately studios are going full woke and pushing narratives instead of just making a good movie. Avatar 2 made a ton of money because it was great movie with no woke story lines.

I think the only reason she's even got that car commercial gig is to keep Brie relevant till they figure it out. Gotta keep her in the social consciousness. This property is on life support.
She's no more powerful than Thor and his 3rd movie was great. And considering how THOR 1 and 2 were far worse than Captain Marvel, maybe people need to relax and give it a chance.

So they canceled captain marvel 2 and decided to call it The Marvels? I assume they did this because they knew that no wanted to see Captain Marvel 2 and it would flop. Smart move by Marvel by tricking the audience.
