He sounds like an arab or turk. Which is absurd since Scrooge IS English!!

Now before you haters hate, it's ONLY a joke. I'm sure many Canadians talk just ...well...a little funny....but I suppose so too do every nation's natives. Like the ones where Dickens lives...
He's doing the whole film in the style of Alastair Sim who starred in the 1951 version called Scrooge...the best every version of Christmas Carol. Sim was Scottish with only a slight accent. If I closed my eyes I would have sworn it was Sim and not Carrey doing the voice.

shareAgreed, that's his Sim impression. Now try to find the half-or-so-hour made-for-TV animation over which Chuck Jones and Richard Williams presided (ca. 1971). Sim and Michael Hordern voice their roles from the 1951 classic film.

shareNot only in the style of Alastair Sim, it is a perfect impersonation of Sim playing Scrooge! At one point I was actually beginning to think they had used some clever technology to transfer Sim's performance from the 1951 film to this new one. Carrey must have spent a long time studying the original to get it this perfect. Although his Canadian background would of course help.
Sim was from Edinburgh, by the way, and his accent is known as a Morningside accent, which is spoken by the more affluent (and pretentious) folk of that beautiful city.
