But that is just me.
The failures in Smith's Grove allowing Myers out to kill again becoming a national news scandal (not just an old story being squeezed by some ambitious podcasters) would be a credible development for the movies to depict.
Not even Johnny Cochrane and the dream team could get him off.

shareThey definitely need to get away from the “let’s have Michael Myers kill a bunch of people for no reason” premise with these films. On my most recent rewatch of the entire series this past Halloween season I found the sequels that explore the mystery surrounding Michael Myers and his almost yin-yang conflict with Loomis to be the most interesting since they were more than just Michael going on a murder spree. I would like to see future films either return to the more supernatural/psychological aspects of previous entries or do something totally different, like Halloween III.

Agreed 100%, and with a good writer it could be done. The Exorcist was a watershed movie, but Exorcist III was just as good and scary while creating a whole new world. Be bold, be smart, and be original.
The sequels almost completely destroy the brilliance of the original film. Michael Myers was the most scary and most mysterious when he was simply a ghostly pale figure in the shadows....when he was literally...the boogeyman. We knew almost nothing else about him, and even Loomis was terrified of him, because he was an enigma he couldn't get through to. He became obsessed.
The randomness of it all helped make the original film so scary and perfect. The sequels were progressively more and more awful. At least Carpenter was loosely involved with Halloween II, and that one was passable. But the producers of this franchise should have stopped there! (And I say this as a huge fan of Halloween, one of my favorite movies).
We didn't need various silly backstories regarding Michael. He was a mystery in the shadows--that's all we needed to know. The more they try to humanize him (with family issues...a chip on his shoulder....a violent childhood, etc...) the less and less he's the boogeyman....the less he's simply evil incarnate, and instead just another troubled nutjob.
We don't need some stupid druid backstory, and we sure as heck don't need any courtroom footage. We shouldn't see much of MM, and definitely not in a court setting! Just like in Jaws, we didn't need to know what drives the shark. And the less we SAW of the shark, the scarier he became. What we need is amnesia, so we can forget all those awful, b-movie, sequels...and leave the original masterpiece alone.
I think there was a Freddy VS Jason script at one point that contained an aspect of that with Jason being on trial.
