I am so thankful...

That when I was 7 or 8 years old my family stopped being witnesses. I guess they woke up and finally realized how brainwashing these people are. I'm so very thankful I didn't know enough then to get brainwashed myself. These people have serious issues. And it messes children up, always being an outsider, never being able to hang out with other kids their age because they weren't part of your faith. I remember never being able to have friends at my house or go to their house. I would always have to stay in the hallways at school when they did christmas and halloween events. That's no way for a child to live, to be shunned from everyone else. This religion is selfish and cruel. I thank my grandmother who woke my father up from this cult.

You are lucky! I wish I could say the same, but unfortunately my mother is still involved in this nonsense and because of that, we haven't spoken in 14 years.

vixen, my mother and I haven't spoken in a decade for the same reason. I've been disfellowshipped for a long time, but we still spoke and visited. Then, apparently, the terms of disfellowshipping became even stricter, and with the additional limitations, I decided it wasn't worth the trouble.

I had an epiphany after a while similar to Sara's in the movie: my parents love the dream of eternal life more than they love me. How selfish.

You can't put religion above people, religion is people.
