Worst movie ever? Or.....

Is that birdman?

Either way, Didn't like both those movies, Gravity does belong down there though. Boyhood is just slightly better than Justing Bieber's: Never Say Never.

This is the song playing when Mason is driving to college, the long road stretched out before him. Movie has a great soundtrack and IMO this song is perfectly used in the movie. I feel the lyrics really sum up the movie and growing up beautifully. Thoughts?

Sorry did not mean to put this here

I did like Birdman. God knows when and how I developed a taste for those kind of movies, but this...not at all. I am wondering what so good about Boyhood that it has such a high rating and such good reviews, not to mention - oscar awarded/nominated.

Here is the answer to your wondering:

This has to be the worst movie ever.

I agree 100% with your comment IF the titles of the films are switched in your sentences. I liked Boyhood very much, but thought Birdman was boring, pretentious, "gimmicky" and a total waste of time (I only went to it because a bunch of family members insisted on going). I didn't agree with the critical and perhaps popular adulation. OTOH I thought Boyhood a special film indeed, with many layers of thematic substance and artistry.

But, I've never been to the Birdman board to complain about it. I can't think of a bigger waste of time than to visit boards of films I didn't like and wax prolix on how worthless they are. On almost every board of even the best films (classics that have stood the test of time), one can find posters, sometimes ones that post multiple times daily for weeks, saying how awful and "overrated" the films are. That makes me wonder whether said posters have anything worthwhile going on in their lives. If they did, they wouldn't be wasting their time complaining on movie boards (not saying you're doing this -- but others here and elsewhere have been).

Worst movie ever? Or.....
Best film of the decade (so far).

reply

Hey. Give some *beep* reasons why you think it's the worst film ever. You can't just be like "This is the worst film ever" if you have nothing to back it up with. Sure, you may not like it, but that's not *beep* enough. Stop *beep* Give us reason why you think this.

reply

I'm gonna give you a reason why:

There is no storyline. Well that's a first. It's about a kid growing up. The writing is astrosuaussurs Especially by linklater standard. this movie is everyday life movie. Just because a movie has a 12 year gimmick doesn't mean it is suppose to be a masterpiece because of that. You might as well make a documantary about a person for 12 years. or Old foto's.

Can you tell me 1 thing that is great about this film, besides the 12 year gimmick? exactly. It's overrated. It doesn't deserve an oscar. IT's a 5/10 or 6/10 at best. the Rating of an 8.0 must be the most overrated score i've ever seen.

Here is the answer to your question. Why I think Boyhood is a masterpiece...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1065073/board/thread/240989390

Oh, and 'Slice of Life' (a story that does not have a conventional beginning-middle-end) is not new.

reply

I've seen this post before, and the same expierence can be used in any other film. Even the film black or white might have the same expierence about the movie. What makes this movie that great then? You can easily watch zoolander, and write a whole post on 'how I was thrilled to see Zoolander'. This does not make a movie any more special than other movies.

The fact that this movie is higher rated because it's made over 12 years is a joke.

reply

You didn't read the post carefully, or maybe not in its entirety. As one example, what about this passage:

The distance between what you think and how you express yourself is monumental in your development, and how you handle that difference makes up your ‘boyhood.’

I am not sure I understand how this relates to Zoolander.

reply

take a look at other films with kids, some of those films come closer to other children's boyhood than this one. What reason is there really for why this film is so much more special? Is it because it's made over 12 years? That does not make the film fantastic!

Who are these critics? who made them up? They give movies like this 100% but a movie similar or different is easily 30% or less.

reply

"some of those films come closer to other children's boyhood than this one."

Such as?

"Who are these critics?"

They are professionally published film critics. People who practice journalism and have studied film and literature. They are paid because of their ability to write compelling articles.

reply

Watch a real coming of age film Stand By Me and let this one fade into oblivion as it has.

reply

Boyhood is not a 'Coming of Age' film or anything that can fit into a trite genre.

reply

Then what the hell is it? Funny thing is you think you're so smart but haven't a clue. Of course it's a coming of age story with a 12 year gimmick. It's been done to death the difference is they use different actors instead of the same. This isn't the masterpiece you think it is and this dead forum is proof. It's already forgotten!

reply

It's a story about boyhood and what goes into it.

A Coming of Age story in film is necessarily about teens and their transition to maturity. It rests upon a specific time and/or incident in which someone undergoes a major transition. In Boyhood, Mason faces lingering issues throughout, and his learned reaction repeats iteself time and again. He doesn't really 'Come of Age,' which as I see it, is the chief complaint that detractors have of the film.

reply

Then what is the point of this movie really? Oh wait there is no point.

How is this so highly rated again?
If you want to see a time wasting movie Boyhood is your film.
But critics are probably paid off because this is ridiculous.

See a real movie, Goodfellas.

reply

The point of the movie is insight into what all people go through.

reply

and any other 100 movies have done the same thing.
Go watch stand by me. Or Forrest gump or something.
This movie is nothing special.
