Confused....

During one flashback sequence, the survivor the 2nd team found, hid away in a room and was followed by Kang. In the room, a tall soldier with a very disfigured face loomed over Kang, and then left without attacking him. I missed who this tall soldier was, and why he was lurking in a store-room....Anyone able to enlighten me? Thanks
