how to watch in the US??

How can we watch this film in the US? Will we have to wait for it to
get released on DVD here in the US or will it have a theatrical release
here in the US?

reply

If it has a realease in the US it'll be in three theaters i guess lol.

reply

and good luck with the subtitles !

You're in for quite a puzzling experience I reckon .

reply

Unless it turns up in a foreign film festival you'll likely have to import a copy of the DVD. Although the film was realitively enjoyable, I don't see how it would be marketable in the US film market.

reply

98% of people in the US wouldn't understand that movie even with subtitles, so I guess I won't be released there.

I must agree this film is mostly for French speaking people it deals with the humour that can be found in the North of France accent something that only French speaking people will get.It allso deals with the stereotypes between the South and North of France , again something only people that are aware of theses stereotypes will find funny.
So as much as I like this film , it's one of the film that would be really hard to market in the U.S.

People in North France walk like THIS!
And people in South France are all... like THIS!

I totally get it!

I saw it today at the Col Coa film festival in Hollywood. It was a pretty good film, with a Q&A with the producers following the screening. I'm in French 3, and understood what they were saying half the time-- the subtitles did NOT match the dialogue, which kind of bugged me. All in all, it was a pretty good film.

OliverGbyrne: The producer actually said the film contains universal themes, comparing the North/South France "dialects" with those of Texas and New York.

"This? This is my over-the-moon face."

She will be missed.

heyy i was at the COLCOA film festival too! haha cool. ok anywayys to the original poster, i THINK there is another screening for the festival on saturday night if you want to go see it, that is, if you live close to LA. you could always check on their website. i think that's the only way to watch it before/if they decide to release it nationwide. i actually liked it so i hope you get a chance to see the movie! hope this was somewhat helpful

What about the east coast? Any screenings there?

reply

even if i'm french, i don't "get" it lol... this is the most insanely boring movie i seen (not in this entirety i got endurance but limits to) in my life... and God knows that i watched boring movies in my life lol...

The barbique joke is one of the best - the americans will understand that.

just saw this film at the Cannes film festival with english subtitles and still thought it was funny. also, there was an article in one of the cannes newspapers that says will smith's production company just bought the rights to do an english remake. sweet!

reply

I would advise watching it with a bag over your head and earplugs up your lugholes. It really is dreadful.

reply

French people like to give their good advices to other people, showing how clever they are but this movies is dreadful, far worse than the worst us comedy in 2008. Don't waste your time watching it. This film makes me shameful to be french.

The DVD is now available in Canada (Region/Zone 1, in NTSC (USA standards)).
Although Amazon.ca shows it out of stock today, I am sure more are on the way.

I have rented the DVD and it pleased me. Not such a great movie, but definitely worth watching.

The French DVD has English subtitles. I'm halfway through it - I'm guessing they found a way to make the dialect thing understandable for US audiences - I don't know if it matches what they're actually saying, but you get the drift. So far, I'm finding it very funny - the lead actor is wonderful.

Checked the digital TV Guide for our area--and it's just limped by (as I'm typing) on the U.S. feed of TV5MONDE (channel 193 on Waterbury, CT's Comcast). Which we can't even get for free on our package....
