Portman is not a good choice for Thor

She really does not fits the role at all and she was incredibly apathetic when playing Jane in the previous films. Find someone else for this.

I guess she needs a new house or something. Maybe she'll be in the 'perky happy' autopilot mode like she was in the first Thor. Or Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium.

reply

Before I heard she was coming, I thought that she was done after her complaints about "Thor: The Dark World", but I guess she liked Tiaka's storyline, still I felt that either Valkyrie or Sif were the better characters compared to Jane, hopefully Sif makes a comeback in some shape or form.

reply

If they bring back Sif expect her to get retconned into a lesbian, as the whole Valkyrie arc is now going to center around her being a lesbian and looking for a "queen", which makes zero sense since two women can't start a lineage together, so she would be a queen of a people with a genetic dead-end.

But I guess you can't expect much sense to be made out of propaganda pushed by the Rainbow Reich.

reply

Stop being a biggot ...

I identify (sometimes) as a woman and lesbian ... i would start a lineage with Portman :D

reply

ROFL... well played.

reply

Yeah, she doesn't bring much to the franchise. I mean she's pretty, but her Jane is pretty lifeless, just another "the girl".

I'd MUCH rather see more of the alcoholic Valkyrie! Now there's a fun gal!

reply

I really do not see the "lifeless" part. I liked her Jane when she was in physics mode. As a girlfriend I do not think she did as well BUT unlike Peggy Carter and Pepper Potts, Jane's professional role was not related to her role as Thor's romantic interest. As such it is harder to intertwine the two roles as easily as you can with Pepper and Peggy.

reply

I will confess that I've never been a fan of Portman, as an actress i don't think she compares to Paltrow or Atwell, they're able to bring a spark of liveliness, humor, or fun to their scenes in a way that Portman never could. Portman's Jane seems quite ordinary except for the physics, she's someone that things happen to rather than someone who makes things happen.

Bring on the alcoholic Valkyrie!

Ok, I have never read comic books so these films are my only reference to what stories happen with these characters.
I thought Thor was Thor.....so how could this human woman be "Thor"? What are we talking about?
What happened in the comics that had some other person become Thor....a human....a girl?

I'm confused?

I mean, I've read on these boards....other people end up using the shield and being "Captain America". In the film Steve Rogers is like 100 year old man and he is done being Captain America and he has passed the shield on and others will now be Cap.

Is something like this going to happen with Thor? What happens to the real Thor?

reply

I think Jane will somehow manage to lift Thor's hammer

reply

In the comics, other people have either lifted Thor’s hammer to get his power or got their own hammer with similar powers. Jane was one of these people.

reply

Don't worry, your confusion was shared by comic book fans, too.

NONE of it makes since given that Thor is a name, not a title.

Why and how Jane becomes Thor still doesn't make any sense, but the reasons for her being able to lift the hammer is also... weird. In some ways it makes since why it would deem her worthy given the circumstances, but it still doesn't make sense why she would be called "Thor", since it's Thor's name!!!

Anyway, if the movie follows any the comic book as reference material it will be a lousy, nonsensical ride.
