Why did they go to so much trouble to find water? (Spoiler Alert!)

There was a creek nearby. Why didn't they just draw their water from there?

BTW, the creek is where Grandma plants the titular minari. Minari (water dropwort)
is a fragrant vegetable used extensively in Korean cooking.
