Yes, he DID lead her on

When she kisses him and he pulls back and says something like "if I've done anything to lead you on....etc....IMO he did lead her on. Having champagne just the two of them in the HOTEL room, her staying in the same suite but in another bedroom, giving her the watch. Also, telling her "you've been so much more than a friend." I think he dug her having a major crush on him. Also, after his wife died, he didn't seem to grieve very much and it looked as if he didn't take any time off at all before he was right back in he office. I don't blame this poor, deranged woman for getting the wrong idea.

She stayed in the same suite because she was there to watch his daughter. The nanny would have been staying in the same suite if she had come. The champagne? Maybe but he just saw it as celebrating the success of the company with a co-worker. He never told her she was more than a friend he said "you have really been there for me and Isabel, you have really been a good friend." The watch was a thank you gift. I could tell she thought it was something more like a bracelet or necklace and there was a brief look of disappoint when she saw it was just a watch, then she hid it well.

Yea, I guess I kind of see your point. But, the new nanny was an older, matronly woman who had just started work. Rachel was with him for 3 years and how could he possibly have missed the adoring looks, the way she constantly pushed into his personal life, showing up at hospital, taking the daughter with him to animal park. Watched the scene again with the watch. You are right. There was a quick look of disappointment. It bothers me that they never figured she murdered the wife and what happened after the called 911 after she pushed Nora down the stairs. It was an accident, but would have like to see if there was an inquiry, funeral. I like this movie, even though not normally a fan of made-for-TV movies. Also, I didn't really think David all that sexy!

reply

You are right, he should have picked up on the looks she gave him. Only thing I can think of was that he was so preoccupied with his wife that just died and his crazy work happenings that he just didn't notice. It is to bad that they never found out his wife was murdered. That's sad. They were not looking for anything sense she was so bad off anyway. I agree that there should have been some form of investigation about the roommate "falling" down the stairs, I'm not even sure that was an accident. The roommate was a very nosy and I can see how that would bother anyone is is is protective of their things..but she didn't deserve to die for it. Oh and I agree that David was not that hot, but she was crazy and probably had a thing for him sense he was her boss. Some women are in to the men of authority thing.

He isn't all that bad. A sweet and normal family daddy and kinda successful with his company. And not ugly either. I mean why got Michael Douglas the 'sexy' roles in Basic Instinct and Disclosure. I think hes even worse - sexyness-wise *shivers* (Good actor tho, no doubt.)

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

mischamus, I agree. Never thought Michael Douglas all that sexy.

I see David as a faithful sort who, even if he noticed another woman in a lustful way, would never act upon it.
If he did pick up on Rachel's attachment, it didn't really bother him since he had no interest anyway - and really, how would he approach her about something they had never even discussed?
It would seem very presumptuous of him to outright ask her if she had another agenda, and if he tried to broach it obliquely, he'd have to get on a more personal level to talk about it. This would also have set her off.

Once his wife had passed on, and Rachel intensified her presence, it was just a matter of time before the **** hit the fan.

This assumes David had at least some idea of it.
If he honestly had none, then either Rachel simply wasn't his type, or he was a dyed-in-the-wool monogamist who absolutely had no eyes for anyone but Carol.

... which I think is super sweet.
I get so annoyed by those who think he should have gone after Rachel. There's such a thing as fidelity, tho' I realize it's extremely rare.

He did kind of lead her on. Taking her to the petting zoo is beyond boss/employee relationship and buying her a watch, with champagne in the hotel room and saying she is important and puts the watch on her arm, and stares at her saying how greatly he appreciates her almost on top of her, he did kind of lead her on. Having her over for dinner .....I understand bosses can be cordial to an employee to a degree but he did sort of lead her on.

I came in late on this one, about 25 minute in and have paused a couple times on the dvr for various reasons, so I am trying to catch up on the action. I am just at the part where they are celebrating getting the account they were worried about. Josie Davis always plays good psycho's for sure.

LOVED the bathroom scene. So convenient nobody else was in there or walked in though it was an obviously busy restaurant.

You're an idiot. Don't they say woman have instinct? Well apparently she didn't and neither do you. How can you honestly not realize he wasn't into her? She was his assistant and he gave no indication AT ALL that he was even remotely romantically interested in her.
