This was freaky as hell... but why, I'll tell...

All the freaky Christians. Holy darn. Do people like this exist in USA? I'm from Finland myself and I belong to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland like 80% of Finnish people... but I don't go to church or basically practice my religion. But these people in the movie are SO scary. I asked around and many of my American friends said it's even worse in reality than movies (and I don't mean curses now)...

Now otherwise this movie was silly. Curses and creepy make-up, pretty standard stuff. But them people... D: nnh...

"What are you doing?"
Kai San: I am killing them, is that a problem?

This is coming a little late I know, but I only just now watched the film on Netflix and then came here to find out more about it. No, Christians in America are not like this. However, there are some areas with communities like this. That's because there is a difference between being religious and being a Christian. The religious people are like the townspeople in this movie; they believe it is their mission to "weed-out" and harass anyone that does not follow their exact set of beliefs. The Christians try to live their lives as Christ taught and SHARE their faith with others without persecution. I hope that helps answer your question.

Well said, and I agree. :)

Small town religious fanatics have little sway in the day-to-day lives of non-believing Americans because our secular laws provide broad rights and freedoms at the federal and state level that overwhelmingly trump authority of small town churches.

Yes. There are many fairly isolated communities in the US with this sort of mentality. I grew up in one.
