mom/boyfriend? i'm a little confused

first off, near the beginning claire says that trish isnt lindays mom, which becomes more and more obvious as the movie goes on. so who is trish? either i totally missed the explanation of that or the movie never gave one. what happened to lindsays dad and her real mom?
now on on trish's boyfriend (roy i think) had a pretty foul mouth for someone so freakishly religious. i' not saying that religious people dont curse or anything like that, but i would expect less foul language and PDA from someone who is religious enough to be part of an excorcism and a witch hunt.
one last thing: did anyone notice the scene in the car? roy and trish are all over eachother. he says something to trish about his big fat heart and then asks linday "you like my big fat heart, dont ya?" lindsay looked at him in a strange, uncomfortale way and pulled her skirt down to cover her knees. idk if that was supposed to imply something, but it gave me the impression that there was something going on and that lindsay felt unsafe around him for sexual reasons. i dont think it was rape or molestation, but i feel like there is some reason for that scene. any insight?

I realize this is a year and a half late, but I just watched this and wanted to try and answer your questions. The movie never said what happened to Lindsey's real mom. Perhaps her and her father were divorced or she abandoned the family. Who knows? However, her father apparently remarried and that's who Trisha is.

From there, Lindsey's father died and retained custody. During this time, she hooked up with Roy, who was nothing more than a boyfriend. Why is his behavior so abhorrent for a Christian? Well, the movie had us believe it was due to his time formerly spent in prison. Maybe he was never able to shake his baser self. As for Lindsey's behavior towards him in the truck, I felt that was because he probably put off a creepy, lecherous vibe to begin with and she just acted as cautiously as she could around him.

At least, that's my tale on everything. Hope that helps even all this time later. :)

I noticed the scene. It was just showing a teenage girls embarrassment at hearing a sex joke her guardians made. Nothing more.

And the "mother" was married to her father before he died. He died, she became guardian and eventually started dating.

Christians curse and kiss and display physical signs of attraction all the time. Not everyone practices modesty or feels it's necessary to be one with God.
