No.1 Post. - The New Cold Feet? I hope so.

Wow, I'm officially the father of this whole board. Awesome.

I'm really hopeful about this show. It had better not be another half-hearted effort at seducing the 30-something audience with a nice set-up that's then been poorly executed.

It's time something actually stood up to the legacy of Cold Feet and matched it.

I think Marc Warren and Keeley Hawes are very talented actors but they've both mainly ended up in crap, sub-standard BBC stuff. Well, Spooks was decent early on and Tipping the Velvet was alright, but Ashes to Ashes was unforgivable. And Hustle is just cheesetastic nonsense.. that Messiah thing was APPALLING and i pray to god no-one else managed to witness that Dracula adaptation.

Hopefully now's their time to redeem themselves. And the two funny ones are always decent as well.

Anyway, just wanted to register my excitemet... this kind of show is certainly filling a void in british tv right now.

The new Cold Feet? I think not.

These characters have almost NO redeeming features, the most likeable one amongst them is the one portrayed as the 'bit of a rogue' type.
And whilst we are on Alex Armstrong, why oh why do TV shows do this? We are meant to believe he is some sort of ladies man but he just looks like a daft geek and he is hardly the type, in looks or indeed, personality to have women (models no less) falling all over him.

Marc Warren (always a watchable actor) is playing the most irritating bloke ever! I could understand if he was supposed to be about 50, but he is a bit too young for a midlife crisis and I just wanted to slap him.

And is there any reason why they writers (are they all male? I must check) have made the women into a bunch of a)saps b) bitches c) Sappy bitches?

What is that about? OMG! Was Keeley Hawes so desperate for the money that she allowed herself to be talked into playing a character that must have been written by a misogynist?

The women in Cold Feet were three dimensional, they had their strengths and they had their weakness, they seemed to be fully rounded humans, these women were....blurgh.

Sarah Alexander's character won't even warn her ex that his poisonous partner is in their flat when he is sounding off about him? BITCH! (and I usually take a womans side but this was just poor).

I am not happy, I might tune into next week, may not, but if the characters don't show some improvement next week I shall give it up.

Why oh why can't they write decent drama for all of us under 60 but over 25 anymore? We are not all wasting our lives sitting in front of soap operas you know?

Baaah, I am SO disappointed.

Brilliant, excellent! Reminds me of Tolstoi.

Could only manage to watch 15 minutes, not my cup of tea. It all seemed a bit strained.

reply

Yes, strained is a good word, strained and negative. The best scenes involving the little boy and his eager little face.

I enjoyed it, too - thought it was funny and believable in places. The Patrick character is attractive to women because he's rich and a smooth talker, but he's also sympathetic - the type of friend that drives people mad but has always been there and probably always will be. Sarah Alexander's character comes across as shallow and calculating, but then she did have to put up with Patrick in a relationship, and finally showed a spark of humanity (giving him the ring back). Jen is manipulative - how did Martin end up having to beg for her forgiveness? - but very sharp, and Martin probably drove her to have an affair! And I felt sorry for Martin from the moment his wife dropped that guilty bombshell on him at his best friend's wake. I think the only truly irritating character was the drugged-up widow who didn't stop chattering - the little boy shut her up, however!

These are 'ordinary' characters, in that most people can recognise in them traits or whole personalities that exist in real life - particularly the women, I might add ('If I have to tell you, then it doesn't mean anything!') I love it, and shall be watching every week.

The Good - Keeley Hawes, the core premise, the prospect of future storylines.

The Bad - The writing was a bit "strained".

The Ugly - the ever over acting Marc Warren.

reply

Aw, I liked Marc Warren! I actually thought Keeley Hawes' voice was a bit expressionless, but her character is very believable, if unlikeable.

And why would anyone have an affair with Carl?

Nuh, Marc Warren was *beep* Really *beep* actually.

On a side note, is just me or does the BBC seem to recycle a lot of there actors over and over and over again. Surely in a country such as England there would be an ocean of new talent to pluck from rather than constantly casting the same actors over and over again.

Wow, reading that post over I sound like a grumpy old man.

Are you insane? Just because a character says something that a lot of women say does NOT make them real and believeable!

It was ghastly. The characters are ghastly, enjoy it if you will but don't you dare tell me it is a good show, it is in YOUR opinion a good show.

Mine differs radically.

I think the key here is to agree to disagree, clearly the other poster thinks it is a good show and you do not, as you say opinions differ, and it wouldn't do for us all to like the same, but calling someone insane is a bit much. Lets be civil peeps.

Thank you!

Yep, unfortunately I feel the same.

Not comic, not dramatic, not clever... just forced and unconvincing.

I turned it off halfway through.

Very disappointing.
