I like this series...

I mean, it's not exactly designed for academic purposes, but it's a way for people to enjoy Shakespeare without having to try and interpret everything. I mean, I know many people who dismiss Shakespeare because it's too hard to understand - but the stories are brilliant.

I wouldn't go so far as to say hate, but the change of ending for Much Ado About Nothing really bothered me. It felt like they ran out of time to tell the rest of the story.

SPOILER WARNING!!!!

It really bothered me that they take the time to quote Shakespeare regarding the eternal nature of true love, and yet Hero's love seemed to die out so easily at the end. It's like the director completely missed the point of what Shakespeare was saying in those quotes, even though they spelled it out for the audience.

To be fair, I haven't seen any of the others yet, so time will tell if I feel different about them. I understand that a lot has to be sacrificed to modernize these plays, but I don't think that the central meaning should be part of that sacrifice.

THE SPOILERS CONTINUE!!!

I see your point, but Claudio's reaction to Don's deceit could also be seen as quite against what Shakespeare said of true love. It made a lot more sense in Shakespeare's day, but if a man accused me of cheating on him during the wedding ceremony and in front of everyone who considered me a decent person, it would take me a while to get over it too. I don't think they completely ruled out the possibility that Hero and Claudio would ever get together again, but even if they didn't, I think both Claudio and Hero did some serious growing up.
