A special force of militaristic superexterminators (plus one entirely useless entomologist) attempt to ward off an unusually viscous invasion of aggressive killer ants in some exotic location, when they discover that the ants have apparently become self-aware. Further investigation reveals that their cognitive abilities have increased to the point of matching ours, allowing them to reason, communicate and even haggle with us. Their ultimate goal was a bit vague to me, maybe I wasn't paying enough attention, but I think they wanted to force the government of Exotic Location to give some island back to them, or something. It all gets rather silly towards the end, when the ants physically join together to form various shapes and objects, including a computer and one giant ant.
There's also a confusing sub-plot that involves one ant slowly taking control over one of the team member's mind from within his ear.
