shareThe production design, yes - although I’d have voted for The Father - but I personally thought the photography of Mank was poor and probably the film’s least-deserving nomination. There was something awkward and artificial-looking about the lending, a failed experiment. While I wasn’t as high on Nomadland as many folks, I thought it should have won the Cinematography award hands-down.
It’s a little odd to think that this okay but polarising film had more Oscars than Citizen Kane.
