Deaf Thugs *** SPOILERS ***
Really enjoyed The Horsemen. I wouldn't say it was 100% perfect, but I was very much entertained. It felt gritty, somewhat gruesome and left me asking myself whether I approved or disapproved of the main character's actions.
I had one moment, though, where I felt let down. This is where Christian escapes the four thugs and exits the house, entering into a short cat&mouse game interspersed with violent interactions with his hunters.
They split up to find him, and were in four different locations. For the most part, everyone was wandering around the fringes of one house (and some other small building, a laundry shed or something). Christian was hugging the walls as he would be more readily spotted in open space.
Why did they have some much trouble finding him? Surely it would only take a couple of minutes for all four of the thugs to have completely circuited the perimeter of the building and driven him to one point, where he would have been surrounded.
My main problem with this scene though, was that he entered into three (I think it was three) fights during this cat&mouse game. Each time with an individual opponent and each time resulting in a violent exchange with blows and expressions of pain.
On each occasion, the other (remaining) thugs that were on the search, should have overheard the incident and been able to rapidly zero in on the location of the clash. The 1v1 should have been so for no more than, say, 30 seconds at max. Considering they were all split up and spread out around the homestead, that figure should really be about 10 seconds, maybe less. Surely at least one other bad guy would hear the grunts and come running. It wasn't raining at this point, I don't believe there was any major source of sound that could have drowned out any of those fights.
I felt a little let down by the realism when in each case Christian was given plenty of time to eventually overcome an opponent before facing up against the next one.
I don't think thats too petty a grievance. Other than this, I highly enjoyed the film.
