voice breaking...

Made me laugh when, during the rehearsals for Oliver, Spud started experiencing problems with his throat, and they put it down to his voice breaking.
It's quite clear from the very beginning of the film, as soon as we hear Spud's opening narration, that his voice has already broken. When a teacher later asks the nurse "His voice hasn't broken?", she replies 'this boy's a long way away from that...", but meaning that he hadn't yet started puberty.
