I kind of have to agree.. Sadly.
I really like Hilary Duff.. I just don't think she can pull off the mean, rebellious girl. At the beginning her acting was really bad, but I think it got better as the movie progressed. Anyway, the movie was pretty good, I wouldn't mind watching it again, but I wouldn't seek it out.
I'm neither a big fan or a big detractor of Hilary Duff's, but here's how I see this. Her natural strength is as a highly likable lead that naturally garners the audience's sympathy. In romantic comedies and things like that, there's no reason she shouldn't be successful. She's not a bad actress, but she doesn't have the range of a truly gifted actress either. Then again, that's a completely different skillset, so it's not that big a surprise.
The problem with this movie is one you see in Hollywood a fair bit: the lead character isn't that likable, so the producers feel the need to cast the most adorable, likable person they can possibly find, so that the audience will still be emotionally attached to the character. As a result, Duff is completely miscast in this role. There are some scenes that simply don't work, but there are others where she carries the movie ably.
For the ultimate example of this kind of miscasting, go dig up that movie where Matthew Broderick plays a guy stalking his ex and seeking revenge after she leaves him for a French chef in New York. He meets up with Meg Ryan, who is stalking the French chef, her ex. Sure they're stalkers, but it's okay, because we know that deep down, they're really nice people who are just coping with difficult emotional trauma.
Her voice is way too sweet-sounding.

1 - She isnt a bad actress and is pretty however her thick bra straps ruined her look for me, probably not her fault tho thats down to the wardrobe department.
2 - Alot of dubbed sound on outdoor scenes?
3 - storyline got weak towards the end.
I think the story line did get weak in the last 5 minutes of the film but it was good movie in whole.

shareyeah im at the 10 min mark too and the movie is reely borin. hilary at the very beginnin was terrible. it was lyke she waz readin from a script. not beleivable at all plus her cheekbones mak her look ugly as *beep*

she isn't great, but at least she's better than some other disney actresses, ie miley cyrus
