Great actress but poorly cast

She was 20 when they shot this and when it was released in theaters (limited) she was 22. Greta is a 17 year old teen.
Hillary is a great actress, and she can hold her own, but needs more darker adult roles to leap away from that teen image.

This probably would have gotten better reception if Ellen Page, Dakota Fanning, Abigail Brenslin or even Saoirse Ronan would have been casted instead...someone who was an actual teen....someone younger.....who your heart actually feels for.

This didn't do all that well because we saw a grown "Lizzie" who was depressed trying to deal with her own issues. It was just bad casting thats all.

Agreed.
She doesn't even look like a teen no more.
They really shouldn't have picked her to star in this, she can't play a rebel if her life depended on it.

First time I've watched Hilary Duff in anything and I doubt she'll ever be as good as the four exceptional actresses you've mentioned. But I agree she looks too old for this film - I thought she was actually older than 22.
