Hi, I hope someone can answer what may seem like a retarded question. Very simply - how did the bag of money get into the shack??? JIm Caveizel throws it in a tree trunk, goes to look for it and its gone - so how did the bag of money end up in that little shack???
shareThe guy in the fishing boat came back after Caveziel was gone, found the money, and took it to his shack. When the son confronted him about it, he was pretty obviously lying.

The guy on the fishing boat took it. He lied when confronted about it or maybe not but the fact is, the money was in his (if it was his) shack.
The only thing that's clear is that someone in the swamp saw Nate (Caviezel) hide the bag in the tree and then took it to the shack, likely someone who lived in that area, at least part-time. It may have been the fisherman -- in which case he lied when confronted -- but it could've just as well been someone else who owned the shack.
