Disappointed.

I love Korean cinema and both these beautiful actors, so I anguished over this ridiculous plot with its pointless outcomes from beginning to end. None of them needed to occur, and the story ends up being stupid rather than tragic. So disappointed.

Agree. I've never seen two people so in love with each other work so hard to not be together. After she found out she was the daughter of a slave, she could have easily married him. She knew he loved her. He knew she loved him. I was surprised by the scene in the jail when he acted like he was realizing it for the first time. C'mon, it couldn't have been more obvious! And the best and most honorable thing he could have done for her after betraying her was offer her a decent life as his wife instead of letting her become a gisaeng. It would've made more sense for him to believe she didn't love him if she had been angry with him, but she wasn't even mad. The fact that she instantly forgave him was proof she loved him. I mean, she could have gone to be with him at literally any point in the story.

And why the heck didn't the people in the peasant camp escape when she told them to?!

Beautiful actors, beautiful scenery and cinematography. I stuck with it the whole way through and liked some of the subplots, but I didn't buy their tragic love story for even a split second. The only reason I didn't turn it off was because I was sure they'd end up together, so I felt like the ending was unforgivable considering how silly the story was.

I don't really see how they could be together, even though they loved each other.

From his point of view, how could he ever get over the fact that he betrayed her and caused her to lose everything? Every time they would be together, he would be reminded of that. He even told her never to forgive him.

From her point of view, how could she trust someone so cowardly who betrayed her and because of that she lost her position, her home, her status, her mother... basically everything? Someone who loved her (HA!) and out of jealousy, destroyed her life.

They might love each other, but this would be a major obstacle between them.
