The old version

Any fans of the old version from the 70s? I’m enjoying this one immensely! I haven’t seen the other version in ages, enjoying this one on its own merits. I don’t really remember much about the previous version except that Robert Hardy was particularly funny as Siegfried. Same West is awesome as well. Hardy’s Siegfried was written differently. All of Siegfried’s characteristics were more everything. MORE! Siegfried on steroids, lol.

Yes I saw the old version and read the books years ago. Really enjoying this new series too. Beautiful vistas of the Yorkshire Dales. The cast are all great. Such vivid characters.

Robert Hardy knew Donald Sinclair, and Sinclair's friends said Hardy nailed him.

The new series rearranged episodes quite a bit, and left with the "leave him standing at the altar" cliff hanger, which never happened in the original series, but yes, we've enjoyed it. There are too few episodes yet to see if it will stand up to the original in the long run ... the original was REALLY good.

I like the new show but now have britbox and watching old one true they are changing the storyline some what and also not showing how hard it was to be a veterinary back in the old day more mud and muck

watching old show on britbox interesting to watch the difference, old show much more realistic guess you can't show that much mud and births today, seems new show is more humorous

I preferred the old.Why can't you show those things today?

One episode from the old series always annoyed me. It was the one where a woman veterinarian comes on board the practice. She is very qualified and competent, but they all give her the cold shoulder. The snide comments about her from all of them, including Helen, were nasty and sexist. Their general consensus was that female veterinarians should limit their practice to small animals. Be interesting to see if this story comes up in the new series and how they will portray it.

agree they should address this issue of women vets the old series was about the muscle of helping animals to have babies, long arms and ropes etc, so see the new show is about relationships not animals
