The movie falls apart in the 3rd act

I rented this, not knowing anyhting about it. I didn't even realize it's from the director of Lars and the Real Girl. The movie starts off with some promise. But it's like they were writing it and couldn't figure out how to end it. The last 20 minutes or so just falls apart.

great start but just runs out of steam. too bad really.
