Doesn't make sense...

In the movie, Diana says that she and Dodi can't spent the night at The Ritz because they can't be seen by the royal family to be sharing a room. This of course leads to the tragic decision to drive back to Dodi's apartment, en route to which they were killed. I don't know if the real Diana really said that, but it's patently ridiculous for a number of reasons.

First, what did she think the royals thought she and Dodi were doing when they stayed together on the yacht and in Paris multiple times over the summer as was clearly illustrated in the tabloid press? Second, why didn't they just get two rooms at the Ritz for the sake of propriety if that was such a concern? Third, with the amount of paparazzi that were swirling around them all day and waiting for them outside the hotel that night, how did they think that the paparazzi weren't going to follow them back to his apartment where they most certainly would be spending the night together? It's an illogical stance that resulted in a tragic ending that could have been prevented.

Yeah, I too found myself looking for a more reasonable solution to the Princess' concern of people thinking (knowing, really) the were sleeping together that night.

Certainly going to Dodi's apartment was not the best option, In the Ritz there are multiple guests and rooms so people can't know for certain. Once in Dodi's apartment, well, there would be no doubt.

If they hated paparazzi so much, and they knew they did not give a rat's tail for Dodi, then the best choice would be for Dodi to go to his apartment with one bodyguard and Diana to stay at the Ritz with the other bodyguard.

No iffy, complex beyond sanity, half baked plan to ride with a drunk. and they'd be alive today. (if in fact that was the reason to leave the Ritz).

Not much better of an ending anyway as the princess would be married with (or divorced from) a man who'd never done anything with his life other than enjoy the fruits of other people's effort (the princess says so herself to William and Harry). She seems to have been going out with a neurosurgeon just prior to Dodi. Talk about a low trade...

One thing is clear to me, with some women, it only takes money (And doesn't even have to be your own) to get them, even if they're royalty. Or was there some other better reason for her to be with Dodi?

And don't give me that old "because he loved her tons" stuff because he seemed to still be into that Kelly girl.
