The film's treatment of depression and suicide?

Okay. I get that Gervais has a big ole chip on his shoulder when it comes to religion. I get that it borders on parody etc etc.
Sure, whatever.
But the reason I am posting this thread even though the film came out 7 years ago is because I am so, so glad that I didn't see it 7 years ago. When I believed that my life couldn't get better, when I thought everyone was lying about wanting me around.
If I had watched a film then where someone says "things will be okay" and it is priced and packaged as a definite, irrefutable lie, it wouldn't matter how the film ended. It has given me a wobble even now.
I know it's just a movie - and a pretty dumb, poorly rated one at that - but in Jonah Hill's plot I can see myself - "hey I was going to kill myself but maybe there are things worth living for" Gervais: "Just lied to that kid"
