I wasn't quite sure how I was supposed to take the ending.....I mean I realize Art had come into his own without any help from his parents.....but I was just wondering.....were his parents there at the end? were they in the audience and I just missed them? I was just wondering because I definately saw other people from his life and his friends lives but just curious if I missed it or not......because I thought his parents would be there to show that they actually love and support their son but I didn't see them.

I don't think they were there.

In saying that, I don't think it means that they're not supporting him. I think we got enough when the mom called and essentially apologized. Plus, Art realizes that he doesn't want his parents in his life for the time being, that it's not the key to his happiness after all.
