Hollyweird strikes again

Brave, heroic Muslims? Check!

Brave, heroic lesbian? Check!

Fallen priest? Check!

Gobbledegook about life and death? Check!

Mockery of the Christian faith? Check!

There’s an interesting idea in there somewhere but, once again, woke wins out. Hollyweird sucks.

Movies and television have ALWAYS challenged our prejudices.

Are there brave, heroic Muslims? Check! Do some people need to be reminded of this when hatred against Muslims is at it's peak? Check!

Are their Brave, heroic lesbians? Check! Do we need to be reminded that queer people are just as human and capable of great things at a time where people put them down and ostracize them as freaks? Check!

Are there Fallen priests? Check! Do people need to be reminded not to put their faith in these people? Check!

Where is the mockery of Christian faith? This series draws a hard line between bad Christians and those who love God. I'd say that's pro the Christian faith.

I agree. This show was created by an atheist but it mostly has a positive spin on religion. And the biggest villain in the show is a white woman who manipulates others using religion and who is delusional enough that she refuses to admit she has done evil things. What a fun character. So while Flanagan might not believe in God he is tolerant and respectful of those who do.

I agree with Jinx. The show discusses all of these topics in great detail and how they relate to finding a path that supports enriching one’s own spirit.

Personally, I normally don’t delve into the spiritual, but Midnight Mass touches on a lot of the reasons why I have pushed myself away from it over the years. I appreciated it.

As for the original poster and at least one of the replies I see in this thread, what you wrote comes off as pretty darn hateful in my opinion. You seem to be angry and insulted that some characters in the show are not christian. Or maybe because one of them is a homosexual. Or maybe it’s because it depicts an majoritarian religion being susceptible to selfish faults and corruption. Either way, you’re expressing frustration over the inclusion of minority characters who are pertinent to conveying the overall message of the story.

I thought it was a very good series and ultimately worth watching, but there was definite workery afoot.

It was clearly taking a big shit on Christianity, both the church as an organisation and even suggesting that the angels in Christian myth might actually have been vampires or other demonic creatures. Would Flanagan dare confront Islam in this way? Nope, he of course treats it as a wholesome religion and the Muslim characters are ultra-good.

The heroic team at the end consisted of the brave Muslim, brave lesbian, lots of women, and strong white males were absent. Of the two kids, it’s of course the black girl that does all the action - blasting the demon with a gun and setting fire to it - while the white boy tags along like a bitch.

It’s still worth watching but be warned - Flanagan is manipulating you with woke ideology while hypocritically lambasting Christianity for its underhanded manipulations.
