Spanish director for Portuguese Fados?

It surprised me that Carlos Saura directed a movie about a famous form of Portuguese music. But, the end product is so beautifully photographed with innovative examples of haunting music from Mozambique, Brazil, and Portugal that I became convinced that Saura is a genius at filmmaking!
