Film did not hit the mark...

I loved all of the intellectual conversations in this movie and Jonathan Pryce was excellent. But the movie itself was a bit of a letdown, the nerotic Paddy Considine and Uma just got on my nerves.

I realize they were characters with alcohol/drug problems and thats how there characters were supposed to be but it did not click with me.

Very interesting points about AA I found fascinating.

But the characters and the abrupt ending felt unfinished. Like the screenwriters did not know what else to write about.

6 out of 10.

Interesting way to put it, hannahp1. I fell asleep watching it the first time 'cos it was on too late and figured I missed a bunch of stuff. However, I found the "conclusion" very unsatisfying.

Okay, so the Jonathan Pryce character dies and the Paddy Considine character sort of sees the Uma Thurman character for awhile. So what? There wasn't much of a "conclusion" in that. I kept waiting for some kind of "tying up of loose ends" or some sort of truth/resolution. Nothing.

First all the claptrap about being an alcoholic who still drinks but is not "addicted" - well, that was promising but all that meant in the end was that sometimes she drinks a lot and sometimes does not. Not every alcoholic drinks a lot every time they drink. I know, I lived with one for 9 months who kept suffering relapses. I think I was looking for some sort of explanation of the alcholic psyche and I found none, though it promised everything.

Sad waste of pretty sets and a fantastic cast.
