Having trouble understanding the Theme?

well... i guess alotta ppl were expecting hardcore action, heads getting poped open or at least some frontal nude like most american movies.

many ppl fail to appreciate Liao Zhai Zhi Yi(name of the book) because, like many other great chinese classics, some background knowledge is needed. ppl talk about romance/horror/action being the theme, thats true on the surface only. in the original version in Liao Zhai, the author added a note at the ending. "How foolish it is for a man to ignore the advice of those faithful to him. Rather, he believes in those who offer him pleasure."

Still dont get it? Let me ask you this question "When your parents tell you don't have sex with your gf/bf" or "Don't drink/smoke pot/etc" How often do you listen to their sound advice over those of your friends who offer you "lots of fun". While parental methods may be outdated, they come from good faith and true love. Your "friends" may appear to be loving on their "painted skin" but the true demon within may be beyond your comprehension.

this is the best comment i read on imdb so far. thats true, after all the trouble and "lots of fun" i go thru for the past 10 years. i truely understand what my parents taught me before when i was a teenage.

thats so true, always listen to the advice from the elder. because probably they have experience and dont want you to go thru the same route. and i want to teach my son that because i dont want my son to suffer like i have suffered

oh come on your putting a little to much on it. the movie was excellent & entertaining but it wasn't that dang deep, lol

Good point! But, is the movie really that deep? I'd rather understand it as a beautiful story that a fox loves a human but as a fox she couldn't do that. However, she finally gives up to be a demon to save the ones she killed. The power of love finally. It's a predictable sad story, but still beautiful to watch. This movie was not made to follow the Liao Zhai story, the producer borrowed the idea and developed his own story. The original story ought to be scarier and the demon doesn't love the guy, which makes the original totally different. It's true that the movies also has the discussion that who should you listen, but it's quite predictable that the guy would not listen the ones who really loves him and loyal to him, the good guy gets ignored, just like many other movies of this type.
The movie is entertaining, even though not too much surprise. Does it have such deep meaning, I really doubt it.
