The Promise -aka- Wu ji (2005) was like Painted Skin, fantasy mixed & beautiful! Thats why word spread and it got 5,564 votes on here "AND" 130 'user reviews', which is d-mn good for any foreign film. Smart ppl dont go by the rating score. They go by the amount of ppl who voted & posted "user reviews"(not the message board), under the list of castings. When a film is worthy is worthy or GOOD, word spreads. A film could have a rating of 3 in IMDb and a hundred bad or good user-reviews here b/c many come to post & rate w/ motives, or, simply coz they're affiliated w/ the film...so u go by the AMOUNT who voted 'or/and' bothered to post a REAL "USER-REVIEW" (under the cast-list), and not the cr-ppy ones on the message board either.

I totally disagree!!! There are very very very good movies, which have only a few votes and almost no comments here on imdb.
And there are totally crappy movies with a lot of votes and many comments as well, because people like to criticize. Therefore if a movie is intended for a large audience but is bad, it will get a lot of comments.
In my opionion, your way to choose movies is therefore kind of dumb. Sorry for my choice of words, but you started talking about "smart people".
