Not bad at all - anyone agree?

I think it was a solid movie and to be quite honest i'm surprised to see that there's a lot of disdain for it on this board & elsewhere.. what do you all think was so bad about it? i liked the leads (i am a KH fan) and the story was well done as was the tone of the film, IMO. So what did u all dislike about it? Or is there anyone w/ me on this? hahah

I agree. I watch a LOT of movies - bad and good - and I thought it was generally entertaining and watchable. I liked the plot and, although it wasn't particularly original, I thought the idea of two single friends brought together by tragedy in that way was interesting. I thought Holly and Messer were realistic characters and their relationship development - from people brought together through circumstance to partners - was believable and actually pretty touching in places.

My only criticisms would be that I wasn't sure about the chemistry between the two leads, it didn't ring entirely true at times, particularly after they 'got together'. Oh...and I thought the ending was SUPER LAME and just fizzled out after what was a really emotional movie :P

I loved it.

I loved the movie.

law-turley I agree with you. As for the chemistry between the leads, personally I loved it, for me felt very natural, thought I would have loved to see more of them being a couple.

and in real life they're very good friends! And I too saw very good chemistry between them!

So you're a woman. I read your review on "Killer Elite". No wonder.

No wonder I have such great taste? Thanks! :)

I really enjoyed the movie. Yeah, there were some cliched scenes with the neighbors and the coworkers, etc. But the story and acting were warm and affecting. I was crying along with the case worker at the end.

How about the entire premise that the entire movie is a romantic comedy centered around a HORRIFIC event.

Your best friends just died and the two of you have to live here in this house and raise their orphaned daughter together. How quirky and hilarious! Shenanigans ensue!

(Maybe we'll be graced with a sequel about the two main actors rekindling their love after Sophie gets childhood leukemia...)

...Or the fact that the two main characters are in their mid to late thirties and completely incompetent. Yes, children are difficult and that would be an unimaginably difficult situation- yet they lack even the most basic common sense. Its really hard to feel for them/ laugh when they are so stupid.

The cliches. Ugh. I felt like I was watching an unfunny SNL skit with no punch line that just wouldn't end.

Finally, the two lead stars were straight up obnoxious. Josh Duhamel's entire acting arsenal consists of him coyly lifting one eyebrow. I never thought I would say that someone was a BETTER actor in the movie transformers, but I think thats true in this situation.

Honestly Im sure theres plenty more but I didnt even make it a half hour through before turning it off.

I was expecting to log on to the boards to this movie flooded by people who were expecting something cheesy-but-cute who were shocked at how unbelievably terrible it was when instead theres a surprising amount of people who thought it was good.

I feel bad for people who paid to see this in theaters.

No, it wasn't a rom-com in the traditional sense, but to my mind the best rom-coms are ones that have dark and light in them, ideally I like to be sobbing my guts out one minute and laughing the next. Too much light and I get bored and wander out to make a sandwich :P

I disagree about Josh Duhamel's acting though, I actually thought it was pretty subtle, particularly in the scenes just after he lost his best friend.

reply

And I'm not just saying that because I think he is totally frickin' hot or anything :D

I have to agree here. I'm not a fan of either of the leads, or of rom-com/baby movies in general -- seriously, this movie was already "on" when I came home and walked into the living room -- but in this case I was very, "Wow, I had no idea Josh Duhamel could even act."

Like, OK, I admit I've always thought of him as a charmless, pretty face, but honestly? He was great. Totally great. There, I said it.

I thought it was a really good balance, and it was actually really funny! I didnt think it was that cliche besides the second she missed him at the airport i knew he was waiting at the house. Loved it overall though

This is a very touching movie... not to mention that Josh Duhamel showed the soft side of him... I loved it.

Absolutely agree with you. This is really a good movie. It deserves more than 6.3, it should be an 8 movie. So if someone really like it, just rank it higher.
