'If my wife and I could fight like that, we'd still be together.'

I saw this mediocre movie with my wife, and we fancied the idea that WE could fight like that and stay together. Well, it gave us an overconfidence in our ability to fight productively, and now... We're getting divorced. I hate this dumb movie.

Im pretty sure what he said was "If my wife and I still fought like that, we'd still be together" aka, if they still had the passion for each other enough to fight like that. But they didnt so they didnt fight. There was nothing left.

And I'm pretty sure op was making a joke.

So.. did you find a replacement yet?

John Sullivan, bolt to the airport and maybe you can save it.

What he meant was, they could not communicate their feelings to each other at all.
When people who love each other fight like that, it makes each person realize things. Just like they did.

They both knew they wanted to be together. Sometimes yelling I love you at someone is the only way they hear it.

The qualifier is this: If you fight like that and don't love that person, fighting does not help.

One of the signs of a dying relationship is apathy. If you don't care enough to have a good, healthy fight now and then, you're in serious trouble.

It depends on the nature of the fight. Really bad fights aren't "healthy" either and lead to divorce too. Trust me.
