Comedy gold

Lee Mack and David Mitchell are great in this. I love them in their day jobs, but they play off each other to perfection. I used to look at the guest line-up and judge how good the show might be that week. But it really doesn't matter, it's the Mack and Mitchell show whoever might be on.

Shame this board isn't more lively. This is one of the better shows on tv and certainly one of the funniest...thanks to Mitchell and Mack. Those two are amazing. Mack is so quick-witted and David is so erudite and articulate.

I'd love to see them interviewed together on Graham Norton or something - much funnier team than Mitchell and Webb (even though I do like Robert Webb a lot).

Thanks for a reply finally Sugarminx. I think it is our duty to keep this thread alive!

I will watch anything with either of them in. I wonder what a Mack & Mitchell sketch show would be like? I don't know if I'm excited or horrified by the idea.

reply

I'd love to see the two of them together on QI or something, I know they've been on separately. Wish series nine would hurry up and start...

reply

I've only just started watching it and it's a riot. I've not laughed this much for a panel comedy series since Buzzcocks.

I only got it together to start watching in series 4 so I'm hoping I'll get to catch up on the earlier series.

Does anyone have a preference for what the best seasons or episodes have been so far?

reply

Not really Julie, it's all good.

Sometimes there are guests that make me think, "It'll be rubbish this week." But it never turns out that way.

There are some embarrassing bits from the usual suspects e.g Louis Spence, but when it's the Mack, Mitchell and Brydon team at the core, you can't go wrong.

My advice is to watch them all Julie. The quick wit of Mitchell and particularly Mack is a delight to watch.

reply

Yeah the core trio is what keeps it consistently brilliant.

I'm not from the UK so I'm not always familiar with some of the guests and sometimes feel like I don't get some of the in-jokes about them.

Like I know Richard Madeley hosts a TV show with his wife but that's about it. There seemed to be some ribbing based on the public perception of him and his show so that was lost on me.

Anyway, it doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the show, it's just one of the perils of watching the show in the former territories!

Have you seen Mitchell and Webb or Peep Show? Or the first few seasons of Lee Mack's Not Going Out? Worth seeking out if you haven't. And The Trip with Brydon and Steve Coogan.

reply

I confess I've not, but have seen a few bits from Peep Show. There's a new Mitchell and Webb series called Ambassadors that's currently airing here - I've seen a few scenes so not sure if its worth checking out.

reply

I watched it but couldn't really recommend it.

Agree - funniest prog on Brit TV at the moment.

The Spikeopath - Hospital Number 217
