Does anyone know why Angus Deaton has left?

I thought he was doing a really good job!

He hasn't been up to his old tricks again or he'll end up on Bognor or Bust!

Oh come on, that joke wasn't even that bad. If they couldn't handle that, why does Frankie Boyle still get invited to shows?

reply

He made that joke up on the spot? I thought most of what the hosts say is pre-written and printed on the teleprompter.

That episode was in 2007, he continued hosting the show through 2008 and only left in 2009. Seems a bit of a delayed reaction. Also very funny considering what we know now.

reply

Well we did not know at the time and Saville was still alive! The BBC knew and many papers, it was common knowelage to celebs, franks skinner joked about it when Badiel and Skinner was on!
So I don't think was the reason, yes he got censured but sacked i doubt he would not have done series 2 as he would be sacked Before it started!

Whether that's true or not, that is NOT the reason Deayton was replaced. At the time of Series 3, I remember reading a brief article about the host-switch and the producers said it was that "(we) wanted to go in a different direction."

Although I liked Deayton on the show, Brydon is a good fit, too.

I believe Savile's mother was quite pungent when he.....

I liked Angus, but Brydon is much better. He is witty, seems more a part of things than simply an M.C. He clearly has a very rich chemistry with Mitchell and Mack.

reply

Yes.

Nothing against Angus, but Rob Brydon's style is just a better fit on this show.

I know Hurricanehorton message was dated Jan 2005 but had to reply to this at this time as re-watching Angus hosting series 1 + 2 of WILTY and I know for a fact he is better than Rob hosting the show as there seems to be more humour and the show moves along more quickly as Rob seems to let the others on the show take up a lot of time and Angus is usually hurrying them on for an answer thou could be the producers in his earpiece.

Now we know all about Sir Jimmy Saville and that was the main reason everyone was saying why he was replaced he should take some legal recourse against the BBC if this was the ecuse they did use for him leaving the show. Having watched Frankie Boyle on mock the week and the joke about the queen with her P*ssy being haunted and nothing was critically said at the time of the original broadcast but only when the programme was repeated again everyone making a big deal of the joke the 2nd time round I understand all the Hypocrisy surrounding the joke he made which only Lee Mack strongly objected to at the time of it being said thou everyone looked to be cringing but like Frankie Boyle sometimes did on mock the week being strongly opinionated and not caring if you offend people can get the best belly laughs.

That's not really a fact, just an opinion. As was mine.

I personally prefer the show now though, especially with what you mentioned. The stories went past too quickly early on. Now, they take their time with each story instead of rushing it. This lets the comedians get into more detail with their analysing the stories, and makes it funnier. Rather then just zooming through.

Also, they got rid of that round where they showed a video, and then asked them if something related to that video was true or false. That felt like a waste of time.

I can see why Rob would annoy some people. He does sometimes try to hog the limelight a bit, but I feel he has better chemistry with David and Lee.
