Disappointed...

Typically, I am a huge fan of films like this that go for Symbolism over straight laced storytelling, but after reading about what Gilliam was going for, I just feel his "vision" did not translate at all into the finished product. I just didn't get that this had much to do about Imagination at all, forcing me to be far too concerned over Tony's past and the various deals with the devil that actually made it too predictable and , well, boring in a way, and once the end credits roll, it left me with very little room to ponder any of it's so called depper meanings. It's understandable that Heath's death would affect the film, but I think it really "hijacked" the production and as the ending states, it became "heath's film" above all else and whatever story Gilliam was trying to tell kind of got lost in the shuffle. (though I know he says otherwise)

I do wonder what could have been, though I'm sure a few of the choices post-Heath worked better for some, such as the changing characters(though It was more disracting to me IMO), but in the end, it just felt very flat to me. I didn't dislike it, but I can't really say I liked it. It was just there...anyone else feel the same way?

I plan to give it another shot, reading about more and more people saying it's a film you need to watch a few times to "get", I figured it's worth a shot...

Stay tuned for follow up...

there's not a lot of just pure joy in the film, I mean I'm a huge fan of it and I've seen it a bunch of times, but if I had one thing that I wish, I do wish that it was a bit funnier. It's not quite as funny as McKeown and Gilliam's other movies like "Brazil" and "Time Bandits." But it's just as dark and weird.

I like all those scenes that they shot in Battersea Power station. The stuff with Andrew Garfield faking out Heath Ledger over the flute, when he makes Tony mad and kind of tricks him into revealing that he doesn't have a sense of humor. That's a really good scene if you watch what Garfield and Ledger are doing, as actors. And it's really unusual. It's full of fun moments to watch the actors interacting, all the stuff with Tom Waits and Chris Plummer is pretty great too.

Did I not love him, Cooch? MY OWN FLESH I DIDN'T LOVE BETTER!!! But he had to say 'Nooooooooo'
