So bad in this movie. She always overacts, but she almost ruined this movie for me. It was almost like 2 different movies: fantastic scenes with the actress playing Waris and then changing into a bad comedy when Hawkins appeared. Really the fault of the director though.

Yeah, she was an 'out there' character, but I've met people in real life like that. Can't say they're my cup of tea, but if she'd been less of such a character, it wouldn't be believable that she'd take in someone like Waris.
Plus, yeah, it did add some lightness to a movie that had very heavy plot points.
