Your funny bone may be broken...

Zapp's Funny bone broken=having too much sex at Leela.

reply

I think it must just be you. I can't imagine anyone not finding him funny. You don't ever find him funny? How about the following lines:

"I don't pretend to understand Brannigan's Law, I merely enforce it."

"What makes a good man go neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?"

"If we can hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate."

reply

it IS just you
zapp rocks

how can you tell me this isnt funny:

zapp: weve met before havent we?
leela: yes
zapp: and on that occasion, did you have sex with someone??
leela: sigh... yes
zapp: could you please point out the person in this courtroom you had sex with
leela: (points to zapp)
zapp: and his name is...?
leela: ...zapp bannigan
zapp: the very SAME zapp brannigan who did NOT blow up DOOP headquarter!! i rest my case.

hahahahah

I guess he's just not your thing. Too bad too. Zapp rules!

Kif - "Sir, we're aproaching Earth."
Zapp - "Who??"

MOVIE SIGN!!

reply

you're very alone on this one

reply

There were times that I found him annoying, and other times that he was just hysterical. He was hysterical in the episode "A Flight To Remember". I also love how Kiff always sighs when Zapp tells him to do something.

Zapp-We were doomed from the start. Nothing to do now, but let to let the captain go down with the ship,

Kiff-Why, that's surprisingly noble of you sir.

Zapp-No. It's noble of you Kiff. (Takes off his captain badge). As of now, you're in command.

reply

Zapp is the best thing about Futurama. He has some of the best lines in the show imo.

reply

Yes he and Nixon!

The Volour fog, Shirley you must be joking

wait what's that mean something like 36 does that include me?
uh 37
I'm 37!!

Hey OP don't feel too alienated here, I'm with you, and many of my friends have shared the same sentiment. He's annoying, and a Troy McClure-type ripoff (yes originally intended to be voiced by Phil Hartman, got it), but the real problem is that his every joke and mannerism is so painfully predictable. There's a way to make buffoonish hams like him funny, fresh, even endearing - check out the majority of Phil Hartman's resume, for example - but the writing on this character has simply never risen to the occasion. Yes, he spouts numerous non-sequitors and idiotic misunderstandings and he's oh-so-horny, but for some reason his material doesn't seem ripe, ever. He was the bane of the first two "Futurama" DVD movies, and again takes up space here. Also maybe it's just me but Kif is a one-note joke sustained for too long, too.

Sorry to say all that. "Futurama" is an excellent show, but aside from Bender (a lot of whose success may be attributed to the brilliance of the actor voicing him), none of the characters are very engaging, imo. The show has had plenty of emotional moments that transcended any time "The Simpsons" ever tried to take seriously, but that's just because they focused more on those types of episodes, whereas "The Simpsons" (at least used to) play its sincere side more subtly, yielding only brief bits of sweetness or poignancy. Okay, I'm off track now, so long.

C'mon, there's gotta be other people out there who don't think Zapp is the funniest thing on the show.

Hate Zapp...? WHAT? He's my favorite character in the series. While I will admit that he's best when used only sparingly in an episode, he's my fave.

" but aside from Bender (a lot of whose success may be attributed to the brilliance of the actor voicing him), none of the characters are very engaging, imo."

please expand. i understand what you mean and im afraid i feel the opposite. i love bender of course, but i also feel hes one of the flattest characters in the show. hes a jerkoff for no perticular reason. all the time. the voice acting is great, but again, i find bender to be predicatable. Fry has got to be the most devolped and well thought out character ive ever encountered in ANY fiction. not just futurama. he has hidden depths and degrees to him that a casual viewer would never expect or understand. professor farsnworth as well is an amazing character. the professor is unpredictable for the simple reason that he is extremly senile. and to me, thats funny.

as always, to each his own and this is just my opinion.

I guess i also find zapp great because he is somewhat based on captain kirk/william shatner. i could try and explain about the entity that is kirk/shatner, but i dont have that kinda time hahaha. if you arent very familiar with kirk or shatner (watching a few eps of star trek i dont consider "familiar") you may not get or understand a lot of Zapps manarisms and such.

I definitely agree with your sentiments on Fry. He's an amazing, amazing character. I know it's a lot to say for a simple cartoon comedy series, but he's something above and beyond what almost anyone would expect from a show like this. He's stupid, yes, which provides much comic relief, but the shows that express his character deeper are the best, in my opinion.

"Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever."

reply

The best character.

reply

I loved his description of Leela - "the woman I once made love at" - not with, but at. Brilliant.

reply

I love the Zapper.

All of the following have entered my daily vernacular:

"It's real velour!"

"Cham-paggin?"

"Kif, I have made it with a woman. Inform the men."

"Stop exploding, you cowards."

"You win again, gravity!"

reply

Here is the best quote of them!
Zapp: I have a sexy learning disorder, kiff tell them what it is.
Kiff: Ugggh Sexlexia...
Thats so funny. I tried quoting it from futurama, I dont know if that is right, so correct me if im wrong. I didnt like zapp at first, when we first saw him, but when he said that quote, he became the character that I thought was going to be so funny, and now, he is.

But I think he is also stupid, as in Benders Big Score, with him being blown up by the scammers and some other episodes that shows his stupidity.

reply

I hate him, yes (most if not all charaacters in the series do as well too, that's exactly the point), but I find him incredibly funny at the same time. What's hate got to do with humour anyway?

PHILIP J. FRY IS UNDERRATED!!!
