To whoever found this movie funny

Can you please quote me the funny parts?
I am so very bored of people commenting on how they laughed all the way through...Calling others "idiots" and so on for not doing so.

I don't understand.

What was it that did it? Was it the tentacles that you found hilarious? Was it the way Bender walks (maybe you find walking animations funny) or maybe how he fired a gun and it made a hole in buildings "oops Bender is so clumsy" (hilarious I know...if you are a 5 year old).

Please do let us know,

See, you started off okay by defending your position, but then you tried to be smart by insulting people who DID find the show funny.

However, the bits you selected obviously made an impact on you, whether you are willing to admit it or not.

1. The Tentacles...paging Dr Freud!
2. Bender's walk & firing a gun through a building...personality is established in these seemingly irrelevant aspects of the film. Bender's arrogance and lack of concern for anyone other than himself is his character, it allows amusing things to be done TO and BY him.

Honestly, if you are a smart individual, and I assume you are, you need to realise that comedy isn't about individual funny lines delivered for the sole purpose of initiating a chuckle from you, it is more complex than that...at least it is for shows better than 'Two and a Half Men' which reek of Writer's hand...

If the style of Futurama doesn't amuse you, then perhaps you need to aim elsewhere...not higher, not lower...just elsewhere, and then post on the forums for that show rather than here, you may find pleasure there.

I've got to say, JohnZoidberg, I couldn't have stated this in a more eloquent fashion. Kudos.

The fact that Futurama was successful at all was due to brilliant writing, voice work and, yes, even the animation was amusing. I remember the pilot episode in which Bender, quite literally, defecated a brick. I found that part hilarious.

As to the other who made the belittling comments to those who enjoyed this particular movie: I do hope you find a brand of comedy that suits your needs. Yes, there are a lot of people who did not like Futurama, which I think was one of the few reasons that were the death of the show. (Fox holds a large hand in that particular axe.)

But, please, if you didn't like something, just rate it and put your views in a review for others to read. I only ask you to keep the venomous, bile filled hatred out of it. It's resentful and quite irritating to those of us who wish to be civil and enjoy things that others like.

(I do apologize for the length of the post, I merely wanted my voice heard. Or read, in this particular instance.)

Well said Etrival.

reply

I think I laughed harder at Bender's son than I anything else I've ever seen on Futurama. That was an insanely brilliant idea, and they executed it perfectly.

And how could you not laugh at the koala going out the window?

reply

But you see, when it was in 23 minute chunks THAT most certainly was a "brand of comedy which suited my needs", not these bloated, overlong, treacly, and dull 120 minute viginettes. I adored the series-yes there were some stinkers, but it was at its funniest NOT when indulging in cheap sentimentality for minutes without end, but when going for gags for the gags' sakes, toying with old sci-fi tropes left and right. I can handle some of the bittersweet moments, when well done (Fry's dog, for ex.) and not stretched well beyond its usefulness. The first 1/4 of the film (hmm 1 episodes' worth) had a lot of that old magic, but the remainder most certainly did not. If that brand of disappointment ends up getting tinged with "bile", then so be it-we have every right to post here.

For me, a funny part was during the Deathball game or whatever it was called where Leila told Bender that his grandmother could push harder and he said "duh, she was a bulldozer!". That one made me laugh.

guess you need to rewatch.and try to pay more attention to what the characters say,not what you see.

reply

Nixon: "I don't care how you decide, just decide!"

*cut to Deathball Arena*

Farnsworth: "Diamondilium it is."

well not all of the patient. rewatch that part, see what kind of doc he is and what didn't get blasted. (he was also the one who gave L 2 eyes)

i loved the marbles being in the wide world of sports show.

reply

Yeah, the marbles thing is hilarious. My favorite line is "...from my remote command post, here at the Time's Square Applebee's..." Bahaha, it's been mentioned, but it's just so great.

This one isn't my fav, but I didn't hate it. A little weird, but not terrible.

I'm sorry. I thought you was corn.

reply

I thought it was a pretty good movie, good all around plot, to me it sort of developed into an Adam and Eve/biblical satire, getting kicked out of "heaven." Just subtle things. Pay more attention, maybe it wont make you laugh out loud, but you can see why someone would enjoy it. And if not, move onto something else.

I would do the elgin marbles with a sledge hammer, and wipe my ass with the Mona Lisa.

Deathball was brilliant, and the whole tentacle thing had me smiling, but I started to seriously laugh when the entire Universe decided to go on a date with Yivo.

Kif got one of the funniest line in the show near the end, which needs a spoiler so I won't repeat.

"It touched me in a bad place; my spinal cord" came second.

And when Robot Devil offered Bender the army he wanted in exchange for his firstborn son... Loved how he hadn't finished cackling before Bender was back with the kid.

Ok, I'll skim through the film and post some of the scenes and lines I found funny.

•"Terrified earthlings" growing exhausted
•The flashback/fake out of Zoidberg asking Fry how he met Colleen.
•"If I ever heard of it, it would be what I always dreamed of."
•Bender's cabbage for Fry, and when he sadly drawing Fry's face on it then punches it
•The 2D boat ride
•"Will you be moved in with by me?"
•All of Stephen Hawking's scenes
"I thought I was playing for me freedom" "...No"
•Hermes hanging up on Wernstrum in the "rudest possible fashion"
•Fry toasting to Colleen and her boyfriends repeatedly thinking he was talking to them (Especially the final "Me?" by Dulu when Fry breaks up with her)
•Zoidberg's delicious cake analogy
•The montage of people kissing after Fry breaks up with Collen, especially his therapist
•Wernstrum throwing the koala through the mini-anomaly and out the window (And the very subtle thud sound afterwards)
•The pile of receipts in the suicide booth
•"Nailed it!" after Bender guessed Kif was dead
•Zapp at Applebee's
•Fry's phone bill filled with "Joke-A-Day" charges
•Amy sleeping with Zapp
•Fry having Scruffy's home and cell numbers in his phone
•Bender's first born son
•"Perhaps you misunderstood the meaning of Fonfon-Ru. It means 'One who doesn't sleep with my superior officer.' That's the literal translation."
"Kiff finally punching Zapp

not a bad list, but:
•Hermes hanging up on Wernstrum in the "rudest possible fashion" - not funny
•Wernstrum throwing the koala through the mini-anomaly and out the window (And the very subtle thud sound afterwards) - marginally humorous
•"Nailed it!" after Bender guessed Kif was dead - kind of annoying, and not funny-annoying
•Amy sleeping with Zapp - not funny, bad twist for the show
•Kiff finally punching Zapp - not funny

reply

That's your opinion, isn't it?

For the Koala think, it's not that he went through the window that is funny, but when the Prof says "It went through unharmed!" That's what was supposed to be funny (what me and the others found funny anyway).

the actions were quoted as being funny, not the statement, which I admit is quite humorous.
