The ending feels commie *spoilers*

It i possible it was not ever meant for consumption outside of China, but, its ending was so .. well there was nothing political in there, but it was utterly smoothed off to a point; everything and everyone except the old man lost its texture in the last 20, 10 minutes. The only thing that could have balanced it out would have been the little girl getting run over by a tractor. But - it went to ever-increasing heights of can't-bear-to-watch-it joy.

In the beginning it made me think of Zhang Yimou, (think 'The Road Home'). But, he'd never be so one-sided and strong (or maybe, sustained) with his ending. And the plot would have more to it.
