My understanding of the ending (Spoilers)

Ok, so Kenneth Monk had a sexual relationship with his step-sister and went on to murder her, with some help from his mother.

So am I right in thinking that the ghost that was trying to communicate with Laura and Guy was NOT their daughter Kimberley, but Kenneth Monk's step-sister? And the ghost was making Guy and Laura think that the messages were coming from their daughter, so that they would kill Monk.

But Monk didn't kill Kimberley, the original suspect Dennis Law was actually guilty. That was how I interpereted the ending anyway. I figured that was the reason why they showed Law watching Kimberley singing at the end.

Good film anyway, clever and unpredictable.

Correct.

Thank you for your kind comment. It means a lot.

Oh wow, It's pretty cool to hear from you Mr Davenport.

Yeah a friend gave me the movie to watch, at the time I was thinking "oh here we go, another ghost story" so it took me ages to get round to watching it, but when I did I was amazed at how much I enjoyed it. I liked the atmosphere, the haunting music and I thought the make-you-jump moments were well timed. It was good to see Sean Young as well.

I've seen quite a few mainstream horrors lately, such as Drag Me To Hell and The Uninvited, but I enjoyed Haunted Echoes more.

Good job Sir.

(My friend is not getting the dvd back anytime soon, haha)

I got the impression that in addition to how you interpreted the story line, that Dennis Law might have also been under the influence of the ghost to commit the act. Also that Guy hesitated before wielding the knife to stab Kenneth. Thus I think he was at that time manipulated by the ghost, just as he and Laura regularly came from time to time under its control like when they fought.
