Although I wouldn't call this film a masterpiece (seriously, how many films can you say THAT about???), I am surprised by the bad reviews.
Yes, it was low budget...but a sound film considering. I am not in the movie making industry...what do I care about how much they spend or how much CGI is in a movie? As long as the camera doesn't shake enough to make me dizzy (you hear me Blair Witch Project), I can overlook it and enjoy the story.
I am always affected by stories about children being murdered and although the premise is one we've seen before...it kept me wondering who they were being haunted by until the end. I also thought that the killer was going to be Neil, the neighbor until the very ending so I was surprised by the ending.
It was also great to see seasoned actors like Sean Young and M. Emmet Walsh. I thought Sean Young looked amazing, I can only dream of looking like her at her age! My only gripe is that wardrobe should have insisted on her wearing a bra (not all that flattering to go braless at that age)...but she seemed to be self-conscious during those scenes and I felt bad for her!
Overall, well worth a watch if you enjoy ghost stories. This is obviously not a film for the horror blood and gore fans. If I had to pick something similar, I'd say it was along the lines of "What Lies Beneath" with Harrison Ford (just a lower bugget version). If you enjoyed that one, you may like this one too.
