One of the worst movies I've ever seen

Boring...........

reply

I take it you're about 12 years old.

reply

Not hardly, well beyond that age.

Was a horrible movie which offered nothing to keep the viewer interested, how would that infer you to believe that I'm a 12 year old?

I know you are but what am I? (there does that make you feel better?)

reply

He assumes you are younger because a 12 year old would obviously find this movie boring.
I think you can agree with that statement as well.

I didn't find the movie boring, but it is not the most entertaining film out there. But what I liked about it was its tranquility. And how every event could happen in real life.

I think an adult with the mental capacity of a 12 year old would think someone who doesn't like this movie is a 12 year old.

Since you have responded to someone else by revealing that you are not all that young, I really have trouble believing your claim that this is one of the worst movies you've ever seen.

I thought it a nice, mostly serious film with some comedy, that gave a nice touch to showing how being obsessed with an interest/hobby, etc. can interfere with one's life, with positive and negative results.

It had no profanity, wasn't full of stupid sex scenes, or drug use. It had not a single character who could be classified as a total idiot (some movies are chock full of those), and it actually featured people who cared for their family members.

My beef with you is in wondering how you have avoided the 125 movies (rough estimate) I have seen in the last two decades that were far, far worse. I've seen some that were so offensive I wished I had left the theater before they ended. (One time I did leave, inspired others to do so, and we all got our money back from the manager of the theater.)

I have seen dozens of movies that were far more boring because they didn't present any interesting characters. This movie had the three stars, plus the lesser characters and I thought every one of them likeable and interesting.

I know you posted last fall, so I ask: Looking back more objectively, even though this movie was boring to you (which is fine, I am not trying to get you to say you've changed your mind), haven't you really seen quite a few movies that were, to you, quite a bit worse than this one?

reply

Yeah I have seen some bad movies, maybe worse than this one. A few come to mind, Midnight in Paris, After Earth and District 9.

I think the problem is that the film makes it seem way to unrealistic. Do people really go to these lengths to go bird watching? Maybe I don't understand bird watching and it does happen, but most people would think these people are nuts. The movie was not funny, the drama wasn't really there, and the characters weren't relatable so the movie had very little heart. Maybe there are people out there who bird watch like that, but I don't see the material as being a full length film. And with this cast people were expecting some funny scenes. There were none.

Ever figured those two statements might be related? And no, I'm not a "birder" either. But I am a guy who is passionate about stuff - I make my living by being passionate about stuff. So yeah, if you have a 9-to-5 job and the most exciting question is where to go for your next all-inclusive vacation, then yes, you wouldn't be able to understand this film or relate to its characters.

I'd say that's your loss (and no, I don't mean only about the film). But to each his own.

Too bad for you that you're only beginning to see movies. Let's see. How many have you seen, now? Two?

reply

Yep, it must be a good movie.... with awesome posts like this. Gotta love IMDB.

Hitler! C'mon, I'll buy you a glass of lemonade.

Worst movie ever? Sorry it didn't have explosions, titties, drugs, rap music, and fast cars.

People like you are why we have so many "made for retard" unoriginal remakes.

reply

"Made for retard"

I have to disagree, I did not think much of this movie at first glance but was pleasantly surprised. The movie is more a romantic drama (each of the characters pursues a love and some pursue multiple loves) with a few comedic elements, calling this a comedy sets up unrealistic expectations.

The journey to be a #1 birder overturned many interesting stones; and the characters were more complex than I expected. Hollywood still applied its magic to the main character but the supporting cast was interesting and fairly complex people.

watched 5 minutes of it a few weeks ago and quickly changed the channel and watched something else

how could anyone think a movie about *beep* birdwatching is entertaining

"Touchdoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooown Auburn"

reply

I guess it's because there are those of us that find certain things to be interesting to us.

For example, myself, I couldn't be any less interested in a football game if I tried. If football ceased to exist tomorrow, it would not affect my life one iota. And though I like Disney style cartoons, I am certainly not going to rate each and every one of them a 10. Like you.

I am, however, an amateur birder. Not to the extent that these guys are, but a birder none the less. I enjoyed the movie enough to buy it on DVD when it came out and I watch it a couple times a year since buying it. As matter of fact, that reminds me that I haven't watched it in awhile, so it's about time to do so again.

reply

Does your DVD have the special cut that includes more scenes and more birds? A few scenes are different from the original, but the original version is also included.

reply

Yes it does. I have the 2-disc Blu-ray and it comes with quite a few extras. The theatrical version of the movie had Jack Black doing the narration. On the blu-ray, John Cleese does it. There's gag reels and deleted scenes.

reply

i found it amusing and quite interesting, not a great film, but very far from being one of the worst i've seen.
