"None of which has won an Oscar like Whittaker. "
Erm... What on Earth has winning an Oscar got to do with anything?
4 years ago, estimates put the figure at over 217 million people, during that year, who were moviegoers in America and Canada alone. Add to that figure the amount of people who just watch a film on DVD/Blue-Ray etc..., then add all the people from all other countries who do the same. Millions upon millions of people watch films. Around 6000 people decide who gets an Oscar and who knows why they choose who they do, and quite frankly who cares and why should they? And only a percentage of them actually come up with the shortlist for any given category anyway with whatever motivation at the time driving their decision-making process.
The Oscars are just a meaningless bunch of trophies dripping with sycophantic adulation (except to a few) but it does give the Academy the opportunity to host one big, almighty back-slapping, suck-up shindig once a year to posterior-lap the pretend pseudo-royalty of moguls and fame-hungry acting elite...
I personally don't rate Whitaker, but heck - I'm just another one of the millions with my opinion.
What if he'd taken both the red pill and the blue pill?
