Question about ending (spoiler warning)

In the end we see that he was in the "neural net" the whole time. Some kind of hi tech simulation that his damaged brain was attached to so that he could live in an "artificial reality".

I was fooled, I thought those scenes were really happening dang. However, we see a glitch that makes it obvious he was living in a computer simulation. Was that just for the people watching the movie or did Jude Law himself realize he was in the neural net? That would be an even more horrific ending if he was deprived of his ignorant bliss.
